Casper Robert Van Dien Jr. (born December 18, 1968) is an actor from the United States.
He is most recognized for playing Johnny Rico in the science-fiction action picture Starship Troopers in 1997. He’s also acted in a slew of television and film roles, most notably in the daytime and primetime soap operas, as well as a slew of TV movies and direct-to-video films, including Starship Troopers 3: Marauder, a 2008 sequel to the original film.
Van Dien landed a number of minor roles in television shows and films after relocating to Los Angeles. Recurring appearances as Ty Moody on the daytime soap opera One Life to Live and the prime time drama Beverly Hills, 90210 were two of his early breakouts. Van Dien, eager to broaden his acting abilities, played a minor role in the video game Wing Commander IV. Van Dien played King Tal in Beastmaster III: The Eye of Braxus, the second installment of the 1982 cult film The Beastmaster, which was released in 1996. Soon after, he was cast as Johnny Rico in Paul Verhoeven’s science fiction action movie Starship Troopers, which was released in 1997. Following the success of Starship Troopers, he was cast as Tarzan in Tarzan and the Lost City (1998). Van Dien next portrayed Brom von Brunt in Tim Burton’s 1999 adaptation of the well-known Washington Irving story Sleepy Hollow.
